Living a Spirit-led life requires us to release the heaviness of our shackles... the ones that tie us down to wanting to know why things happen a certain way... the ones that cause us to struggle against “what-is”, and often, “what-was”, trying to determine the "correct" way to be according to forces outside ourselves.
Living a Spirit-led life is living a life that includes time for centering and listening to the subtle voice within, for that is the only place Spirit can make itself known to us. Benevolent spiritual guidance speaks gently and lovingly into our consciousness and does not force us to listen by screaming into the wind. It simply runs through us like a gentle river, waiting for us to stop struggling so that we can float upon its wise direction.
Our human minds are made to navigate the world, to give cognition to the present moment and to apply reason to things that happen. This faculty is enormously useful for physical survival and for inquiry into any number of subjects. It is also disastrously limiting for spiritual growth. Since the older parts of our mental faculties are designed to protect us, they offer up reasoning that is useful to keep us safe, self-righteous or secure in our view of the world, but this function does very little to help us expand into "what-could-be". This part of us is designed to identify conflict and keep us dancing with it, as an attempt to control the situation and protect us from possible harm. It likes to win and does not like to lose because, in the old days - winning equals life and losing equals death. But… what happens when we become aware that this is a function of this older part of us that keeps us spinning in the same chaotic circles? What if, perhaps it is like a computer program that must be updated if our new programming is to work together on this planet as we evolve into a more peace-filled and conscious humanity?
There is a clearing beyond our conscious thoughts, and an emptiness that is often referred to as “presence”. One way or another, this clearing will be filled with something – as that is the nature of a void. We see it, and fill it. Empty vessels are designed to carry things. If we are not mindful to notice the difference between our chattering, security seeking mind and the freeing voice of our higher consciousness, we may continue to fill the clearing with things that limit our ability to hear Spirit’s direction for expansion. That is Spirit’s only goal, to expand as us. Each being that exists is a branch off the same great tree, a string on the same great instrument, a plant in the same wild garden. It is a healing force seeking constant homeostasis, balance and growth both individually and collectively.
Our world is in conflict, as it always has been. Maybe your personal world is in conflict as well. In either case, we are each able to access the silence within to ascertain the highest and best attitude with which to move forward in accordance with what-is. This is the practice of tapping into the infinite wisdom of the universe. This is the practice of listening to our intuition, also known as our “inner teacher”. It is a relationship that takes some time and practice to build, but once it’s there it is infinitely available to us and it can improve our relationships, our health, our sense of abundance and more.
There is no singular wisdom path for everyone, for it is YOUR inner stream of wisdom that will send you the inspiration to know your highest and best potential in this life.
Are you a warrior spirit who must be on the battlefield?
Are you a peace-holder who must hold a softer space?
Are you a caretaker, adviser, parent, orator, leader, healer, helper, teacher, artist, scientist, writer or innovator, or something completely different?
I guarantee you are a mixture of several characters, as are we all.
Perhaps a better question is, what energy are serving with your various gifts? Or are you hesitant to use them altogether, paralyzed by the need to know the “right” way to proceed?
We all have parts to play in this massive human drama and those who desire to be sentinels of light can be exactly that, should we choose to accept the mission given to us from within each of our souls.
The universe is unimaginably complex, and its orchestrations are beyond our comprehension. In other words, there is indeed a reason for everything – we just may never truly know what those reasons are. When we give up the need to know, yet still choose to live in accordance with our deepest sense of integrity and purpose. Then, we’re on to something my friends!
Find your true north and then head towards it. Be a shining example of a human being driven by the power of a consciousness at peace, then notice how you become a true source of power. It has been said before yet it still bears repeating:
“Be the light you wish to see in the world”
(see more detailed quote below)
Conflict and chaos are seductive forces that work under cover of illusion. Let us be the lights we are called to be from within ourselves for our homes and communities. The shadows that are inevitably cast will have little chance of knocking our world out of balance – no matter how hard they might appear to be trying.
“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a (person) changes (her/his) own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards (him/her). This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” – Mahatma Gandhi
