Can you believe it’s already mid-summer?
When I was little, summer meant a break from school and the set structures I usually adhered to. I could play all day without a care. I was an only child and loved the days when I could lose myself in imagination for hours on end. If I wanted to be a mermaid in the pool all day, I could. Make random stuff? Check. Watch my favorite movie 5 times in a row? No problem. Shoot, I was the boss of my life in the summertime!
That time to myself also revealed a doorway to realms beyond the physical, as I communed with nature spirits and called the wind by playing little tunes on my recorder flute (to my delight, it worked every time!). I maintain to this day that this was some of my earliest training as a spirit worker-to-be...
When I’d get back to school in the Fall, however, I was promptly re-tamed by the “authorities”...
I remember in one of my earliest school years, I liked to instigate revolutions at nap time. Face down on our mats, I’d look to the other kids and say, “I’m not sleepy, are you? Why should we take naps if we’re not sleepy?”. I’d get up and run around (probably looking for the pool) only to land in the principal’s office with a note home to mom.
I guess wrist slaps like this one kept me relatively quiet (and sleepy) for a couple of decades, as I learned to live under the radar and play it safe. But once I rediscovered my intuitive voice as an adult, I realized that not much has changed since my days of nap-time rebellion.
While I honor the importance of staying grounded and doing what it takes to support our physical lives as citizens of a society, I am still driven to remind you that there is a great and awakened presence inside you that wants the highest and best for you at all times. It wants you to explore every angle of your precious life and take chances on what inspires you so that you don’t pass on from this life not having done so.
(And the last thing it wants you to do is to play sleepy just so you can conform to someone else’s nap time.)
Close your eyes now, and recall a carefree memory from childhood.
What was your version of “being a mermaid”? Did you have a little rebel within you too? How did it manifest in your life? Do you still let these parts out to play or have you forgotten how?
When we revisit the imagination and fortitude of our childhood selves, we have the chance to realize that we are so much more magical than we give ourselves credit for. Still, many of us shut off our intuitive motivations, visions and spiritual doorways as adults because we are told we are just making it all up and there is no practical use for them. Then, as confusion and stress increases with age, we wonder what went wrong and why we feel so stuck.
If you’ve been feeling "stuck" in this way, and would like to talk about ways I can help you to awaken and embrace your intuition and spiritual connection as who you are today...

In the meantime, for those in the U.S., have a happy and safe Independence Day!
Remember, true independence lives far beyond any category that divides us. It lives deep at your core as your true self, and if you get really quiet (maybe before and/or after the fireworks…) you might hear it whisper a special request to add more fun and freedom to your world.
May you always trust that loving inner voice.
(And may you always make time to "be a mermaid" in whatever ways work for you)
I look forward to connecting with you soon!
In Peace, Wisdom and Love,
