There is so much change in the air lately. Can you feel it?
It’s autumn, and many of us are releasing the past as we move homes, change relationship status, deal with health challenges and finalize plans for job changes and retirement. We’re looking back at the year and thinking of the holidays ahead, knowing they’re probably going to fly past us far too fast before the new year is once again upon us.
Much of this rapid change is due to the natural flow of life force energy, and that natural flow has a way of echoing itself in our inner consciousness as much as it does the collective. Trees are releasing leaves that no longer thrive. Opposing energies shift power back and forth on the public stage. The earth shifts its rhythm, shaking up humanity in powerful ways.
And deep inside is our personal experience of it all.
You may be wondering what’s next. Major change seems to have taken over many lives lately, and if you’re not mindful – you might start to feel like something is wrong. Take a moment now to consider… what if everything is as it should be? What if we are all learning something important that we could not learn if these changes did not occur? Our minds like to feel comfortable in predictable patterns, and while those patterns can fortify us for the next growth spurt they have little power to challenge our consciousness to change what is not working and release old energy that is ripe for renewal.
In stasis, nothing grows.
I’m reminded of the story of the sacred Phoenix when I think about all of this. In case you’ve not heard about this awesome creature, it’s a mythical bird that burns in flames at the end of its life and is reborn from the ashes. It has eternal life but must continually go through this process of death and renewal to move forward, much like the spiritual self that dwells within each of us. The message of the phoenix has been coming to mind a lot this week and it’s also been showing up in a lot of readings. This symbolic totem of rebirth reminds us that to truly be renewed, we must allow the destructive fires of change to transform us so that we can be reshaped from the ashes of our old self.
At any given time, we are burning in the fires of change, being reformed or taking flight into new life as wiser and more present beings. And to make things even more confusing, this is happening in different areas of life at different times, constantly. No one is immune to these cycles, and the more we can accept these divinely orchestrated patterns of life as they are, the more we can be conscious and compassionate as we walk each other through them.
Take a look at your life and your thoughts now. What has been causing you the most suffering lately? What has you the most confused? If you were to put a timeline on this predicament, can you tell where you are in the cycle of death and rebirth?
Are you the phoenix taking flight? It may be time to celebrate and allow things to be easy. Find the updraft and ride it into the stratosphere! Cast your fears aside and envision great heights for this next phase. When you allow fear to win at this time, you may limit or hinder your time in flight. Time to burn and transform will come again… but now is the time to feel joy and gratitude for your new phase of life. Allow it in and enjoy.
Are you the phoenix burning in the fires of transformation? Be gentle with yourself, this is the most challenging part of transformation. You may need to carefully look for the hidden lesson or blessing in your circumstance. What is happening right now that will help you gain spiritual strength and perseverance? Pushing against it will only cause more pain. Allow your conscious self to be transformed by what is happening. Often, these times come to fortify your faith in a higher power so it can guide you through the dark night. Breathe deep, this process can hurt but it won’t last forever.
Are you the phoenix being reformed in the ashes? Practice patience with yourself, with others and with life. You are healing from a recent upheaval and healing takes time. Do what you can to aid that healing. Practice good self-care, get lots of rest and hold the possibility for a full recovery. Honor your pain for what it is, but try not to hold onto it for too long. You’ll be born again once the time is right, and it should be relatively soon. Trust life to take care of you and take the next steps with courage.
From the ashes, You Will Rise.
Hope this note has been of help, no matter where you find yourself in this sacred cycle of change. Take care of yourself and honor your path.
Wishing you peace, wisdom and love always.
